Different Types of Makeup Foundations

Filed under: Model Advice, Photoshoot Advice, Makeup Advice — Joseph Kellner @ 00:11

Different Types of Makeup Foundations

Foundation is applied on the face and the neck to give the skin an even, smooth look. It acts as a base for all other makeups. Foundation hides the blemishes, scars and spots on the face, thus making a woman’s skin appear clear and beautiful. These days, there are various types of makeup foundations available in the market. Choosing the one which is perfect for one’s skin and meets one’s requirements, can be very difficult. So, to make things easy, here is some trivia on all the makeup foundation types, which women will find very useful.

Liquid Foundation
Amongst all the makeup foundation types, liquid foundation is most popular with women. Reason being that since it’s in liquid form, it acts as the full coverage foundation for your skin. All the “flaws” in the face, such as, blemishes, spots and under eye dark circles, can be easily covered with proper application of liquid foundation. On the flip side, liquid foundation is unsuitable for women with oily skin. Even the water-based one can make a woman with an oily skin, look greasy. Moreover, if someone does not apply it correctly, a liquid foundation can make the face look streaky. This is especially true if the woman has selected a liquid foundation color which does not match her skin tone.

Cream Foundation
One step ahead of liquid foundations, in terms of moisturizing the skin and providing coverage, are the cream foundations. They provide heavy coverage and can be very oily on the skin. That’s why, women with extra dry skin should only go in for a cream foundation makeup.

Powder Foundation
A powder foundation does not provide the kind of coverage which a liquid foundation does, still, it is of great use to women who have an oily skin. Another benefit of a powder foundation is that it is available in compact form, which means that it can be carried by women anywhere, for touch ups, throughout the day! Moreover, powder foundations create a look as if the wearer is sans any makeup. So, for all those women who prefer a natural, even look, powder foundations are God send!

Stick Foundation
Stick foundation resembles a lipstick in shape and texture. When applied on the face, it dries out very quickly, which makes it perfect for women with an oily skin. With stick foundations, women no longer need concealers as these cover all the skin “flaws”. They are perfect to wear for parties and special events, as they provide a very heavy coverage.

Spray Foundation
Women who are always on the go and need to freshen up their look after every few hours, should go in for spray foundations. As the name suggests, these foundations come in a spray bottle and thus can be sprayed over the face, whenever the face starts looking dull! They are the easiest to apply and the best part is that they are available in numerous shades. Women with sensitive skin will especially find them very useful.

Tinted Moisturizer
Tinted moisturizers combine the properties of foundation and moisturizer. They provide a light coverage to the skin, keeping it moisturized at the same time. Many of the tinted moisturizers come with SPF, thus they help in protecting the skin against sun damage as well. Tinted moisturizers are the ideal choice for women with dry and wrinkly skin, as they do not create any kind of streaks on the skin. Due to their moisturizing property, women with dry skin should definitely give them a try.

Liquid to Powder Foundation
This type of foundation is suitable for women with a normal skin. It is available in a compact form, in almost all shades. This type of foundation dries up very quickly after application, giving the skin a smooth, even, oil-free coverage.

With the information above, I hope now you will be able to pick a foundation which meets your criteria. One last tip before I sign off - always use the foundation in combination with a moisturizer and a concealer. These three together, if applied appropriately, can give your skin an amazing appeal!

Techniques to make your eyes bigger

Filed under: Model Advice, Photoshoot Advice, Makeup Advice — Joseph Kellner @ 14:50

Techniques to make your eyes bigger

Apply two coats of mascara instead of one to create a lifting effect for droopy lids. To make sure that every lash is coated, use a mascara wand with angled bristles.

Place the curler at the root of your lashes and gently pulse three times. Move the curler halfway up the length of your eyelashes and repeat. For even more definition, put your eyelash curler under a blow dryer for 10 seconds before curling your lashes — the warmth of the curler will act as a curling iron for your lashes.

Think of your eye color, then imagine a color wheel. Women with green eyes look great in warm, sandy tones and shades of purple. Pinks and golds compliment brown eyes, and shades of brown and blue enhance blue eyes.

Use pink concealers, rather than yellow-based ones, to erase under-eye circles. Orange undertones in pink concealers camouflage blue tones.

Take this beauty tip to help naturally blend in. To illuminate your eyes, extend brush strokes upward, toward the contour of your brow bone, when applying eyeshadow.

If you want to add length and volume to your lashes, don’t be afraid to try false eyelashes. They’re easy to apply and will make your eyes pop.

Your eyes will look bigger if you keep a clean shape by waxing, tweezing or threading your brows. Brush brows upward so they aren’t pointing towards your eyelids, which can look sloppy.

After applying mascara, fill in any bare spots with dots of liquid eyeliner. This will elongate the line of your eyes.

To make your eyes pop, line bottom lids with a shimmer eyeshadow. Stick with light, neutral colors for daytime, and navy, plum and gray tones for night-time.

Believe it or not, trading in your eye makeup for a bright lip color will actually make your eyes look bigger. Forget the eye makeup, but make sure to conceal uneven tones around eyes with a color-correcting concealer.

Tips for Skin!

Tips for Skin

Tips for Skin

To prepare a smooth canvas for your makeup, always start off with clean, moisturized skin. You’ll find that your makeup glides on and blends more easily.

1. Keep your skin free of buildup by using a gentle cleanser in the morning and at night. When cleansing your face, do so gently in upward motion stokes - do not tug, pull or scrub too hard to prevent irritation.

2. Freshen up your skin with a toner containing ingredients that suit your skin type.

3. Indulge your skin and keep it hydrated with a moisturizer that is compatible with your skin type. Make sure your daytime moisturizer contains SPF to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

4. Treat yourself to an at-home-facial. Use a mild cleanser, then exfoliate with a gentle scrub that contains exfoliates that are round and non-abrasive.

5. Apply a facial mask after exfoliating. Rinse off thoroughly and get a good night’s sleep!

Tip: Even when you’re steering clear of the sun, or it appears to be a cloudy day, always be sure your makeup foundation or moisturizer contains SPF 15 or higher.

Erase the years with makeup!

Filed under: Model Advice, Photoshoot Advice, Makeup Advice — Joseph Kellner @ 13:15

These simple makeup color and formula changes will have you looking younger in a flash

As you notice lines around your eyes, avoid frosted or shimmery shadows. The sparkle highlights wrinkles and crepey, crinkly skin instead of masking.
Silky, matte shadows blend into your skin and camouflage fine lines. Sweep a light shade of champagne or peach — universally flattering colors — from lash to brow to brighten the whole eye area. This creates a full, youthful eye. But if puffiness, especially on your lids, is your problem, use a medium shade such as taupe on the entire eyelid to add depth and create a natural-looking crease.

Lips get thinner and drier with age. Dark lip liner and matte lipstick draw attention to the fine lines around your lips.

Lipstick usually has a longer wear than gloss. But gloss makes lips look more full. Apply lip color, then topping with gloss for a fresh, youthful shine. If your color strays into lines, use a clear wax lip liner. If you want to wear a dramatic eye; keep lips and cheeks neutral.  Avoid pale nude tones on your lips because it can make your skin look grayish. Use pink neutrals and berries instead.

Always prep with a moisturizer before applying foundation. The extra bit of moisture helps makeup slide on smoothly and evenly.

Ideally, your makeup should allow your natural skin to show through, not blanket it. To get the lightest, most sheer layer of coverage, use a damp sponge or synthetic brush instead of using your fingers. These tools control the product so it’s not applied too thick. Then, dot concealer on the spots that need extra coverage: under your eyes, around your nose and on any pimples. If you have dark circles under your eyes, avoid yellow-based concealer, which makes skin look green and ashy.

Know how your eyes look when you wake up? Squinty and slightly lower at the corners?

While we’d all like to think going natural on our eyes looks fresh and clean, aging eyes will look too tired. A thick streak of liquid liner can make eyes dark and droopy too. Liner makes eyes look full and wide open, de-emphasizing any signs of aging. But dark black liners and mascara make eyes look hard, so consider switching to a subtle brown or brown-black. Use powder eyeliner instead of liquid — it’s a challenge to get a fine line with the liquid and too much can look retro. Using an angled brush, work the powder liner into your lash line, getting in between all the lashes. It should be visible when your eyes are open. Next, fill in sparse brows to make them more defined — it sets off your eyes. It also creates the illusion of lifting by drawing attention up instead of down. Choose a powder color similar to your brows and apply with a small angled brush. Don’t make them too drawn on, follow their line, focusing on filling in any gaps, not crafting a new look.
Also, never skip curling your lashes. This allows more light to get to your eyes, making them look brighter and less droopy.

Guide to face primers what are they?

Filed under: Model Advice, Photoshoot Advice, Makeup Advice — Joseph Kellner @ 23:45

While you may not be onstage under hot lights with the media flashing millions of close-ups, there are a few ways for you to set your face with primers so your makeup lasts throughout your day’s performance and keeps you looking picture-perfect till the end.

To keep eye shadow from sliding, I love using an eyelid primer. The pigment also smoothes out your lid’s color; some are made with brightening pigment that makes them beautiful on their own.

Lastly, I love a lip primer. Lip primers usually have a bit of pigment in them, which evens out your lip tone and keeps your lipstick true to its color. It takes the uncertainty out of wearing a bold lip color by making it feather-proof, so you can drink from your coffee mug during your big meeting with ease.

Primers are the one product that seems to confuse most people. “Why do I need this” I hear them moan!  I have always been a major advocate of this must have makeup accessory, because nothing else keeps makeup on longer, and helps to make your skin look as flawless.

Makeup Brushes and Their Uses

Makeup Brushes and Their Uses

Applying makeup is an art and a lot of practice is required to master this one. Makeup brushes are useful aids that can be used to apply makeup in the right way. Different makeup brushes have different uses and are of different types. They help you achieve precision and accuracy while applying makeup and there is no way that your makeup would look ‘caked up’. Using the right makeup brush can give you results similar to makeup applied by a professional makeup artist. Makeup brushes and their uses are of various kinds and so you should at least have the essential ones required to apply the most basic types of makeup.

A makeup brush is made up of fibers and a handle. The fibers can either be synthetic or natural, and the handle is made of wood or plastic. The handle should be securely attached to the fibers and the fibers should not be too rough or harsh on the skin. The handle should be comfortable to hold and should not be too thick. Synthetic makeup brushes are easier to clean and last longer than makeup brushes with natural fibers. While choosing or buying a makeup brush, keep in mind the type of fiber and handle used, and always opt for quality makeup brushes.

Depending upon the area to which makeup is to be applied, various types of brushes are designed. For example, to apply makeup to the eye, you can use a liner brush, a blending brush, an angled brush, or a shadow brush. For the lips you can either use a retractable or a long handled lipstick brush. For the face, you will need a foundation, a concealer, a blush, a kabuki, and a powder brush. These makeup brushes are designed with tapered, straight, or chiseled tips, and can be used as per the specific look that you desire to achieve.

Foundation Brush: A foundation brush is used to apply liquid or mineral foundation over the face neck and even on the back. They have flat and long bristles that taper at the tips. It can be used for application as well as for touch up of the foundation.

Concealer Brush: A concealer brush is used to apply concealer to areas of imperfection on the face. This brush effectively helps cover blemishes, spots, and imperfect skin tone.

Powder Brush: A powder brush can be used to apply loose powder over the foundation and concealer, and can also be used to apply a shimmer or a bronzer to the face. It has fluffy bristles that help dust out the excessive makeup product and applies the exact amount required. It also helps even out the makeup on the face. This is one of the must have makeup brushes.

Blusher Brush: A blush brush can be either big and fluffy, or small and angled. Blusher brushes are used to apply blush or cheek color evenly over the cheeks and cheek bones.

A lip brush is a fine, soft and tapered brush that can be used to apply lipstick or lip gloss to the lips. They help blend in the lipstick with the lip liner to give a smooth and even finish to the lips.

Eyeliner: An eyeliner brush is a really thin and fine brush with soft bristles that help you line your eyes with precision, along the shape of the eye.

Eyeshadow: To apply an eye shadow in the right manner you will need brushes like the contour brush, the lid brush, and the crease brush. All of these are specially designed to apply different shades of eyeshadow to the eyes.

Mascara: Mascara usually comes with a sturdy brush that applies mascara evenly to the eye lashes. Some mascara brushes also come with small comb like bristles to remove excess mascara from the eye lashes.

Eyebrow Brush: An eyebrow brush gives definition and shape to the eyebrows, giving it a clear and precise arc shape.

So, now that you know about the various types of makeup brushes and their uses, do not hesitate to use them while applying makeup the next time. Use only the best makeup brushes to give your makeup that perfect finishing.

Swimsuite Model Advice!

Given the nature of bikini fashion modeling, the great majority of your skin will be exposed. Invest in some highly rated skin products to ensure great looking skin. If you have very light, fair skin, you will want to consider using a tanning product suited to your skin type.

Seek the advice of professional skin care experts or other bikini fashion models for a list of safe self-tanning lotions, or research this on a consumer advice website. Drinking plenty of water is another wonderful way to promote healthy skin. Water is needed by every single part of your body, including your skin, and also helps flush toxins from your body.

Bikini models must look healthy and be in good shape. You don’t need impressive muscles to be a bikini fashion model, but you must have a fit, healthy appearance. Bikini models are usually required to have specific body measurements. The typical requirements for bikini models are a bust measurement of 36”, a waist measurement of 24”, and a hip measurement of 34”. It is imperative that bikini fashion models look well-proportioned as well.

Some agencies will make exceptions to these measurements, depending on the particular modeling job and bikini model, and there are also some agencies that are looking for models with a general overall healthy and fit look, without regard to measurements. Check with the specific modeling agencies to find out what their measurement requirements are for bikini models.

Many bikini models do not have their photography shoots done in a heated or air-conditioned photography studio. The fashion industry stays well ahead of the current season, and bikini fashion models often find themselves modeling in very cold temperatures. You must be able to model a bikini and appear to be enjoying the warm weather and sunshine.

Plus the work can be demanding. As a bikini model, you will need to be available at any time of the day. Any modeling job can take much longer that originally anticipated, and you must be prepared to work for long periods of time.

There are lots of different types of bikini fashion modeling jobs, and each one will have its own requirements, schedules, and demands. Bikinis can be modeled for swimwear catalogs, fitness magazines, as visuals for magazine articles, and for fashion shows. You’ll need to be ready for this, but if you are, you’ll enjoy a fantastic career, great money, and lots of travel. I hope these 3 tips help you to decide whether or not bikini modeling is the right career path for you.

Makeup Mistakes

Filed under: Model Advice, Photoshoot Advice, Makeup Advice — Joseph Kellner @ 14:40

Makeup Mistakes!!

Women apply cosmetics to look better, to enhance their beauty - not detract from it.

Did you know that wearing the wrong makeup can actually make you look years older and that certain makeup application techniques help you appear slimmer?
Knowing how to choose makeup and apply it are not tidbits of knowledge that every woman is born with.

Some women avoid makeup simply because they were frustrated by previous attempts to purchase or apply it.

Knowing how to choose makeup that disguise these problem areas help, but prevention is still the best medicine.

Never leave the house without sunscreen on your face.
Facial skin is very delicate and must be protected year round from UV exposure, even on overcast days.

If you choose to go without foundation, at least apply a moisturizer that contains sunscreen.By mixing a small amount of foundation with your moisturizer, you can get a sheer, healthy boost to your complexion.

Liquid bronzers are another great way to achieve a sunny glow without damaging your skin. Have fun in the sun, but protect your skin. Getting the makeup to match your natural skin tone can seem nearly impossible. Most women will need a foundation that has either neutral or cooler undertones. Those warm, honey colors may look tempting in the bottle but they can make your complexion appear un-natural.

A few women have warm undertones to their skin. These women often have red hair and look best in clothes that are golden or yellow based. They can wear warm gold and apple green chartreuse without their pores glowing a sickly hue. They even get compliments when wearing the colors that most women avoid at all costs.

Matching a foundation closely to your skin tone is fairly simple. Apply a small dab to the underside of your forearm or the back of your hand and blend it in well. If the edges fade seamlessly into your bare skin and the covered skin appears natural yet flawless, you’ve found your match!

When applying the foundation to your face, be sure to blend it into your jaw line and neck. You may even want to apply the foundation to the back of your neck if you are planning on wearing your hair up or have a shorter hairstyle.
Don’t forget to blend well around your hairline and ears as well to provide a natural looking finish.

Dark circles can add years to your face. Getting plenty of sleep, drinking lots of water and avoiding allergens can help decrease the occurrence of these unsightly under eye blemishes.

If swelling accompanies your circles, witch hazel can help give you an instant eye lift. Ironically, hemorrhoid pads contain witch hazel and can be used to reduce eye puffiness, just don’t get too close to your eyes.
A light purple concealer can quickly eradicate dark smudges and give you a well rested appearance.

It is important to apply under eye makeup with care.
The skin under the eyes is especially fragile and thin. Use a sponge to apply makeup with gentle dabs and blend lightly without pulling on the skin.
Still need a quick pick me up for your face? Using white eyeliner on your inner eyelids can help give you that wide-eyed, well rested look.
Applying a dab of light colored eye shadow to the middle of your lower lid and sweeping it across your brow bone can also make your eyes appear more open and youthful.

Do you want to take a few pounds off of your face?
Don’t we all?

By applying a few subtle strokes of a natural colored blush in the right places, you can look thinner instantly.
Apply the blush lightly just above your cheekbones, pulling the brush downwards and letting in fall off of your face as your cheeks curve, avoiding the round balls of your cheeks. Apply a few light strokes just above each brow bone, across the tip of your nose and your chin for a balanced, healthy, subtle glow.

Are you troubled by a little extra padding under your chin?
Applying a neutral colored blush down both sides of your neck can help create a few artificial shadows that will give the appearance of a slimmer neck.
This is a great way to shave off a few pounds, instead of pulling on a turtleneck sweater or layering necklaces to try to hide your plump chin.

Makeup for Acne Prone Skin from Joseph Kellner

Filed under: Model Advice, Photoshoot Advice, Makeup Advice — Joseph Kellner @ 01:00

Makeup for Acne Prone Skin

How do you feel when you have to attend a party the following day and you get a cluster of painful red bumps on your face? You constantly worry on if the makeup will further flare up the acne on your face. You need to consider a lot many things before choosing a makeup for your acne prone skin. We give you the tips over here.

Cosmetics for Acne Prone Skin
An acne prone skin is always laden with sebum and oil. So the cosmetics you choose must be light and should allow your skin to breathe.

  • The face cream or the moisturizer you choose must be free from lanolin and isopropyl myristate.
  • Instead of heavy moisturizers, use serums and light water based lotions that are capable of restoring the moisture balance without letting it dry.
  • Use a non-greasy sunscreen with SPF 30 containing titanium oxide.
  • The foundation you choose must be non-comedogenic (one that does not clog pores).
  • You can opt for a mineral makeup or liquid makeup containing organic botanical extracts, titanium oxide and zinc oxide with anti bacterial properties.
  • Choose a cleanser specially formulated for acne containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide that are capable of controlling acne.
  • You should never apply cosmetics with dimethicone and bismuth oxychloride as they clog the pores present on your skin.
  • Always avoid products with alcohol as they dry the skin and enhance production of sebum and oil on your skin.
  • You should never apply astringents, exfoliators, masks and toners containing alcohol on acne.
  • Kaolin, lavender oil, tea tree oil and rose water are very soothing on acne.
  • Use a gentle non abrasive cleanser with benzoyl peroxide on your skin.

Best Makeup for Acne Prone Skin
Now that you have got an idea about the right kind of cosmetics for acne, you can try to cover up the acne and gift yourself a flawless look.

  • Cleanse your face with a mild cleanser (non comedogenic). First rinse with warm water and then splash cool water on your face. Dry your face with a soft towel. This helps to close the pores.

  • Now apply rose water or a gentle non alcoholic toner on your face and neck with a soft cotton. This helps cleansing traces of dirt if left over on your skin after cleaning.

  • Use a water based or oil free moisturizer on your face to avoid the greasy look. You can even mix a few drops of lavender oil or tea tree oil with the moisturizer to soothe your skin.

  • Apply a non greasy concealer on the acne, pimples and spots present on your face. The color of the concealer should match your skin tone.

  • Now dab the desired amount of foundation on your palm and apply evenly all over your face with delicate sliding and sweeping motions. Then blend it perfectly on your face. The foundation should be either oil free, water based, transparent or matte. You can also mix some powder with your foundation for giving a better coverage to the acne.

  • Use a clean makeup brush to apply the blusher on your cheeks. The blusher should also be oil free and mild.

  • Dab either loose or compact powder on your face for a perfect finish. This gives you a neat, oil free and smooth look.

Makeup Tips for Mature Skin!

Filed under: Model Advice, Photoshoot Advice, Makeup Advice — Joseph Kellner @ 13:39

Makeup Tips for Mature Skin!

Entering your forties does not necessarily spell the end of the desire to look beautiful and try out new makeup products. In fact, it is at this age, when makeup becomes a necessity and not a mere tool of enhancing your beauty. However, the makeup for older women differs from makeup for younger women, in number of ways. Not only the makeup has to be classy and graceful but should also hide the obvious signs of aging. Liquid makeup for older women does just the same. Along with rendering a youthful appearance it also camouflages wrinkles and fine lines.

Liquid Makeup Foundation
While using a foundation for an elderly woman it is always best to go for water based or gel foundation. In case, you are wondering how to apply liquid makeup foundation, the answer is simple, use your fingertips to spread the foundation evenly on your face. Liquid foundation moisturizes the skin which tends to get dry in older women. It also keeps the skin hydrated and thus reduces the appearance of fine lines. Powder foundations enhance the wrinkles, hence it is better to steer clear of them.

Blush
Cream blush is effective for older women as it blends well with the foundation and creates an impression of smooth skin. Also, blush should be selected in neutral, pink or peach shades. These shades give a youthful appearance and also exude elegance and class. Darker shades make you look older than you are.

Eye Makeup
Eyeshadow should also be cream based as it smoothens the creases above the eyelids. Eye or the region surrounding eyes is the first to show the signs of aging. Hence, eye makeup should be done with extreme caution. Stick to safe colors of eye shadow such as pink or gray, which soften the gray hair. A liner and mascara in dark color can be used to complete the look.

Eyebrow Makeup
Eyebrows begin to fade and the hair become sparse, when you grow older. Hence, you should use powder or gel to define them. However, choose the color that matches with your natural hair color.

Lip Color
Lips often become thinner, dried and lack shine as you grow old. Lip gloss can create an illusion of fuller plumper lips. Use a lip color that has moisturizer and ingredients like vitamin E to nourish your lips. You may also choose to apply an anti feathering lip primer to avoid feathering. Again refrain from using wild and vibrant lip colors. Pink, berry, coral or peach shades look good on older women.

Makeup Tips for Older Women

  • As mentioned before ‘class’ is the keyword when it comes to makeup for older women. Remember, your makeup indicates the class you come from, hence always be careful with your makeup.

  • Instead of going for the color or appearance of the product, look at the ingredients and settle for those which have natural ingredients.

  • Always go for quality products, even though they might come at an extra price.

  • When you are old, the old adage ‘less is more’ applies while wearing makeup. Heavy or pan cake makeup will give you a gaunt and sullen look. Hence, always wear minimum makeup.

  • Avoid using, shiny, shimmery makeup as it looks gross on older women.

  • Along with wearing makeup, it is equally important to select right clothes and accessories. Go for clothes that suit your age, profession and looks. You cannot afford a fashion faux pas at this age.

The last and the foremost important thing one needs to remember at ripe age, is that you only need makeup to feel good and confident about yourself and not to impress anyone. This is a stage where you have already carved a niche for yourself and nobody is going to judge you by your appearance. Therefore, use these tips on liquid makeup for older women given above to just feel good about yourself.
